When driving through the countryside between Colchester and Sudbury, keep your eyes peeled for The Lion in Honey Tye, which dates back to 1869. On arrival, we were met with a hubbub of conversation and a lovely warm ambience - we couldn't wait to see the menu. To whet our appetites, I picked the gin-cured ocean trout with picked crab and pea salad, while my companion tucked into the breaded goat's cheese and marinated Mediterranean vegetables. My perfectly spiced Sri Lankan curry with confit lamb shoulder, basmati rice and homemade flatbread came next, and my partner's flavoursome butternut squash and Wensleydale risotto was quickly devoured. We finished on a high with a fruity summer pudding and a Baileys créme brûlée with biscotti, and we can't wait to make a return visit - perhaps on a Wednesday for the steak evening or a Friday for the popular fish night
