Chez Mumtaj is a two-AA-rosetted boutique-style restaurant that showcases a unique style of French-Asian haute cuisine. This reputable establishment has a sizeable collection of accolades celebrating its progressive menus. This includes being named Best Pan-Asian Restaurant at the 2017 Asian Curry Awards.
Inside the restaurant, the main dining area and separate private rooms are luxurious and opulent. The Saffron Lounge, meanwhile, features rich mahogany-panelled walls, leather banquette seating, antique-mirrored walls and private booths; a great place to enjoy a pre- or post-dinner drink.
Chad Rahman is the culinary force behind Chez Mumtaj, and his imagination and skill have been recognised with numerous awards. Chad’s career reached new heights in 2018 as he was asked to represent the UK at one of the most prestigious food tournaments in the world, the Culinary World Cup 2018, held in Luxembourg. Chad and his teammates won one gold, three silver and three bronze medals as well as eight merit diplomas. He was named Hertfordshire Life Chef of the Year 2017 and won the Ethnic Chef of the Year Award 2016 – awarded by the Craft Guild of Chefs. To begin, expect innovative starters such as bird’s nest Scotch quail’s egg and spice-crusted hand-dived Scottish king scallops. Mains include pan-roasted guinea fowl with a homemade chorizo, chicken tikka and wild mushroom pie and game jus; curried Cornish monkfish tail with Franco-Asian Pondicherry shellfish bisque and South Indian-style crabmeat tomato rice; and spice-crusted saddle of venison with masala-crushed Charlotte potatoes and chocolate tamarind red wine jus.
