The candlelit dining room of this smart, Tudor-style village pub is beautifully decorated in soft sage green with touches of leather and wood fi nish, and boasts a glowing stove.
Scott and Rebecca took over The Dragoon in 2012, on a mission to offer an imaginative menu of top-quality, locally sourced foods and an exciting range of drinks. I began with chargrilled pears with Suffolk Blue, chicory and walnuts - a fresh, balanced mix of tastes and textures. My partner's pan-roasted wood pigeon with golden and purple beets, roast shallots and sharp capers epitomised the autumn season gorgeously. To follow, we sampled superbly seasoned, crisp-skinned sea bream and also beef in onion and wine jus with a creamy pillow of mash, topped with wafer-thin parsnip crisps. Presentation was simple and effective, portions generous and prices sensible, with starters at around £5, mains at around £12, and children's meals with ice cream at £6. Although full, we were unable to resist the Yorkshire parkin and bonfi re toffee sauce, and sweet shop tiffi n with sour cherry compote for dessert.
Our fellow diners were of all ages, and the relaxed and friendly staff generated an upbeat atmosphere that everyone enjoyed. With a traditional bar room, patio, pudding club, special tasting menus, quiz and steak nights and gluten-free meals, the delightful Dragoon caters for every customer's fancy
