Step back in time and visit the Cock Pub & Kitchen, the oldest alehouse in Ongar. The historical building is full of character and features a welcoming fire and an even warmer atmosphere. A local landmark since 1580, the alehouse featured its own brewhouse as early as 1766.
Several incarnations of the historic venue later, it is now a much-loved local bolthole. The staff at the Cock pride themselves on the friendly and welcoming service they provide and are led by owner Jack Bell who trained as a chef in Cornwall and fell in love with the town of Ongar after moving to work at a local restaurant.
While the bar continues to serve quality cask ale, craft beer and a fine selection of wine, Jack took over the pub and brought his expertise to renovate the venue. With a new menu crafted by Jack to concentrate on traditional pub classics, he and his dynamic team aim to bring together the true pub values of great beer and entertainment alongside a modern dining experience. You will find West End style food and British pub classics next to each other on the seasonal menu.
