The Bell Inn
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The family-run Bell Inn is a pub truly at the heart of pretty Bovingdon. A beautiful, flower-adorned 18th-century exterior will catch your attention and inside, visitors find the welcome as authentic and agreeable as the exterior.
There’s a bustling bar area perfect for catching up with friends or popping in for a pint after a country walk, and warming up in front of one of the two open fireplaces. The bar stocks a good selection of tipples, including three real ales from local breweries, such as Tring Brewery, located just a few miles away, and the wine list is carefully put together and reasonably priced. If that leaves you peckish for a little something, plump for a tasty bite from the light-bites menu.
The restaurant is separate to the bar, and provides a tranquil space in which to relax and enjoy the fine food on offer – everything here is homemade. The Bell Inn specialises in Aberdeen Angus and Hereford steaks and you’ll find fillet, rump, rib-eye and sirloin all on offer. The chargrill is popular with those looking to dine, with a range of mouth-watering meats including chops and rack of local lamb, which is butchered at the pub. The Bell’s homemade, minted lamb burger is definitely something you should try. As well as the chargrill and classic pub dishes – including pie of the week and beer-battered fish and chips – they also have a specials board that alters according to what’s in season and available locally.
Outside is a pretty garden terrace for soaking up the sun in the summer, perhaps after strolling one of the many walks close to the pub. Dogs are welcome in the bar, so it’s a great pit-stop. The Bell Inn is also family-friendly and as it’s only a 20 minute drive from the Harry Potter Studios, it’s a great place to stop by for dinner on your way home, or if you’re staying in Hemel Hempstead.
