The Hare at Roxwell is the first of a planned group of around five Pie & Pint Inns. As you might expect, speciality pie-and-pint nights are held every Thursday, but even if that's not your thing you'll be able to find something you fancy on the vast and varied menu. All the meat, fish, produce and cask ales are sourced locally and virtually everything is freshly prepared on the premises. The large dining area is light and open and backs on to a pretty patio area with a running stream and country views. It's also worth noting that bookings are only taken for parties of five and over, up to a maximum of 14.
After much deliberation, we chose the delicious chicken liver parfait with toast, salad and caramelised red onion chutney, and buffalo chicken wings with celery and blue cheese dip to start. To follow, my succulent moules marinières with seasoned chips were delightful, while the chargrilled lamb chops, with blackberry jus, mint and tomato salsa and fresh
vegetables, were exquisite.
The dessert counter is a joy to behold, displaying an array of homemade cakes and cheesecakes. Although we'd already enjoyed two hearty courses, we succumbed to temptation: my creamy Malteser cheesecake and my companion's strawberry Eton Mess with Chantilly cream, ice cream and grenadine syrup were pure indulgence
