The ancient village of Rayne lies along an old Roman road in the heart of rural Essex, less than two miles west of Braintree. The Welsh Princess has served the local clientele as a traditional tavern for many years, and has recently embarked on an exciting new venture serving a range of traditional British fare. Visiting for the first time, we relished starters of prawn cocktail and classic Italian bruschetta to start. I followed with tasty piri piri chicken while my companion enjoyed the sea bass, both of which came with an assortment of side dishes, salads and sauces. We were treated to traditional sticky toffee pudding and light lemon cheesecake to fi nish. The food and the welcome at The Welsh Princess are wholesome, and the pub promises to offer much more to its loyal local clientele and its ever-growing following in the months to come.
