Located conveniently on the border between Kelvedon and Feering, just a brief jaunt from Kelvedon railway station lies the Sun Inn. This 15th-century public house has a simple mission – to create fresh food bursting with fl avour, and to provide each and every visitor with an experience that’s hard to beat. The Grade II listed venue boasts a traditional interior with curiosities above the bar accompanying detailed fl oral paintwork, and two enticing inglenook fi replaces to warm your cockles when the cold weather sets in.
The team at Sun Inn likes to keep suppliers local, with many based in Essex. High-quality produce from Kelvedon, Witham and Mersea Island make their way into the kitchen and on to the table, and all play their part in a thoroughly enticing menu. An eclectic mix of internationally inspired fare means that everyone in your party will fi nd something to devour. Roasted fi gs stuffed with feta, wrapped in prosciutto and drizzled with honey, and slow-braised lamb in a rich Greek-style sauce with olives, tomatoes and oregano are some of the more exotic dishes, while English staples of battered haddock, triple-cooked chips, peas and tartare sauce, and ham, egg and chips will appease the traditionalists. All bread is freshly made on-site, including the ciabatta and focaccia loaves that make a stunning appetiser with balsamic oil or smooth butter. The selection of indulgent desserts are just as delicious. White chocolate panna cotta with fresh mixed berries, honeycomb and vanilla sorbet, and the cookies and cream cheesecake accompanied by toasted marshmallows and toffee popcorn, come highly recommended and are sure to please.
A dedicated gin menu boasts everything from Beefeater and Hendricks to Tanqueray. There’s plenty of choice for an after-dinner drink. The wine on offer is carefully selected to accompany the food available.
With a location that’s perfectly central and a truly fantastic food offering, Sun Inn is the perfect meeting place for everything from a special occasion to a laid-back evening out.
