The Wheel Inn
Modern British

50 Main Street, Ticknall, DE73 7JT
Situated in the beautiful village of Ticknall, just a short walk from Calke Abbey - a National Trust park and Grade I listed country house - The Wheel Inn is a cosy and colourful pub serving innovative home-cooked food. The pub retains its original character, with stripped beams and a welcoming log burner, but a refurbishment in late 2007 added a modern twist, making for a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
Food is offered at lunchtime and in the evening on weekdays, and all day at the weekends, from a core menu that has a wholesome feel. You can tuck into dishes such as deep-fried haddock fillet in a crispy beer batter, home-baked beef and Stilton cobbler or the house mixed grill. There is also a daily specials board with a strong emphasis on fish, where tuna, plaice, sole, sea bass and haddock are regularly seen, as well as alternative favourites such as slow-cooked venison casserole with field mushrooms, merlot and fresh herbs. Follow your main with a scrumptious dessert and coffee, and then explore the fully stocked bar's variety of quality wines and beers. The Wheel Inn is warm, friendly whatever the reason for your visit, whether you're calling in for a snack after a country walk or for a meal with family and friends
