This lovely village pub is tucked away in the charming village of Donisthorpe. Recently taken over by former chefs Ashleigh and Zara, it’s now a delightful place in which to enjoy delicious food and good company. There’s a large garden outside, and a covered terrace where you can gather to enjoy a drink on warm evenings. We were welcomed by a member of the friendly team, and felt immediately at home.
The extensive menu offers a wide selection to choose from; we opted to start with a beautifully presented prawn cocktail, and Italian baked mushrooms with lovely soft, warm bread. For mains my companion plumped for a juicy rump steak and chips served with exceptionally tasty, crisp homemade onion rings. I tucked into a scrumptious ‘Twix of salmon’ – flavoursome smoked salmon served atop a flaky fillet of salmon, paired with a jacket potato and salad. To finish, we enjoyed Baileys ice cream, and a well-balanced assiette of desserts in the form of three delectable mini puddings – a trifle, a brownie and a crème brûlée. As well as being a great place to eat, Halfway House is also the perfect spot for hosting events. With a large 100-seater marquee fully equipped with dance floor, lights and heaters, the team can adapt to any occasion. Parties of 50 or more can also take advantage of a fully stocked bar.
