Nestled in the heart of a tiny hamlet, this is a homely, traditional pub with a welcome as warm as its roaring log fire. We opted for a table in the bar, basking in the cosy glow and sipping real ale and red wine as we ordered. I thoroughly enjoyed my prawn and smoked salmon starter; my friend had sautéed garlic mushrooms, hungrily soaking up the herby butter with a giant crouton. My Highland chicken main was served in a wonderful cream sauce with a dash of whisky to give it a Celtic kick, while my companion's baked aubergine was a Mediterranean marvel. The Swan also opens on weekday lunchtimes for booked parties, so give the friendly staff a call to reserve a table. You won't regret it - we left smiling in satisfaction.
