The Hand & Heart is a traditional English pub steeped in history, complete with a spectacular sandstone cave restaurant, which is atmospherically lit with fairy lights and candles to provide a truly unique, romantic atmosphere. The Victorian frontage and cave are still largely in their original condition, and upstairs guests have the option of dining in the garden room conservatory or making use of the private dining room, which boasts a real wood fire and sheltered smoking terrace. The pub is well known for its fantastic selection of real ale, cider and whisky, as well as fine wine supplied by local supplier Weavers.
The menu comprises traditional English dishes and places emphasis on fresh, locally sourced, quality ingredients as well as seasonality. Touches of originality elevate the food above the norm. Signature dishes include succulent belly pork with perfectly crisp crackling and real cider sauce, and generously portioned steak, smoked bacon and local ale pie with gravy made from the much-loved house beer Round Heart, brewed especially for the pub by Dancing Duck. There are also plenty of options for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan diets.
The Sunday lunches are renowned for hearty portions, meat such as 30-day-matured roast sirloin of British beef, flavoursome gravy, freshly made crisp yet fluffy Yorkshire puddings, and seasonal, locally sourced vegetables.
