Sam and Craig have been running the pretty, friendly and welcoming Fox inn for the past two and a half years. They've successfully developed a characterful pub with a relaxed ambience and a menu and daily specials board that offer traditional dishes at reasonable prices.
Our starters of Stilton-topped garlic field mushrooms on Melba toast and breaded chunky Brie with redcurrant jelly were generously portioned, well seasoned (the Stilton in particular added lovely salty notes) and full of flavour. For my main, I noticed that the homemade pie of the week was a classic steak and ale variety, which finalised my choice instantly. The pie was mouth-wateringly delicious, topped with flaky pastry and served with seasonal vegetables and hand-cut chips. My partner, meanwhile, wolfed down a great plate of home-cooked ham served with two free-range eggs. Puds for us included a blueberry and cranberry cheesecake, and an apple and plum tart made with local fruit that were both enjoyed thoroughly.
To accompany the food, a choice of three real ales from The Old Forge, the pub's own microbrewery, were available, although the varieties change every week. We were also told that The Fox hosts a very popular beer festival in May with live music, but you shouldn't wait until then to pay this pub a visit
