The saying ‘live life on the edge’ is given an entirely different meaning at riverside restaurant The Water’s Edge. Uninterrupted views of Newark Castle and the River Trent lend to a calm, convivial atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxed, hassle-free drinking and dining with friends and family. Inside, a chic yet rustic style is achieved with well-treated exposed wood, ambient lighting, plush leather Chesterfields and the area’s first indoor waterfall.
Food is kept seasonal and fresh, with a varied menu offering something for everyone. The Edge’s shareable, tapas-style starters of calamari, whitebait and Iberico meats are perfect for keeping hunger at bay on arrival. A typical main-course offering, meanwhile, might include barbecue pulled brisket with skinny fries, barbecue sauce and the Edge’s homemade slaw; classic Lincolnshire sausages with buttery mash and onion gravy; and smoked haddock with pea and spring onion risotto, a poached egg and Hollandaise sauce. There’s also a selection of craft burgers, each topped with flavoursome accoutrements such as melted Stilton and smoked pancetta or tomato, mozzarella and pepperoni, and served in a brioche bun with fries or hand-cut chips, crisp salad and homemade beetroot slaw.
If you still have room for afters, The Water’s Edge’s immensely decadent chocolate garden – combining chocolate brownie, chocolate mousse, ganache, and milk ice cream into a plated work of art – is guaranteed to impress even the most seasoned dessert aficionado.
