The Forge Inn specialises in great service, home-cooked fare, cask ales and fine wines. The interior exudes old-meets-new charm, flaunting a bar with oak floors, an open fire and a spacious restaurant hung with chandeliers.
Everything on the quintessentially British menu is fresh, homemade and seasonal. The Forge prides itself on using British produce, and most ingredients can be traced back to the farm of origin. Due to this commitment, The Forge has been commended and accredited by Assured Food Standards.
During our visit, we were excited to dine from the kitchen headed up by local foodie and executive chef, Sam Hagger. The autumnal starter of potted duck with cornichons and toast was tart, crisp and creamy - a mixture of pleasing textures. To follow, West Country beef meatballs in tomato ragu with linguine tossed in garlic olive oil was hearty and rich. To finish, morsels of cheese with biscuits and Clos Dady dessert wine provided a fitting end. Throughout the evening, subtle jazz and ice being shaken for cocktails can be heard drifting through the bar. In summer, the alfresco area is the perfect place to relax and share a deli board with friends, and monthly 'live lounge' evenings are renowned for quality music and a lively atmosphere. The Forge also opens from 11am weekdays, serving locally roasted coffee with complimentary papers and Wi-Fi.
