Mohammed, the owner, was attentive, friendly and, with 18 years experience in the restaurant business, knows how to provide excellent service and quality food. This a family business with everyone working together both in the kitchen and attending to customers' needs. A traditional atmosphere is apparent with original Bengali pictures and a soothing colour scheme.
The menu is extensive with a large selection of starters, traditional Indian and Bengal dishes, as well as some Western alternatives. Starters are priced from £2.65 to £5.25, and main courses, £5.95 to £12.95, include a choice of classic favourites like balti, passanda, biriani, kurma and jalfrezi as well as exciting chef specialities. House wine is £8.95 and Cobra and Kingfisher beers are available to refresh. I can definitely recommend the excellent tikka changga, which sees chicken cooked with spring onion and potato in a delicious sauce, and ideally accompanied by the mixed vegetable bhajee. Murge-e-laziz - a barbecued breast of tandoori chicken with minced lamb, in a special sauce, was also superb. The food was well presented and delivered to the table on sizzling hot plates. If you are looking for an Indian meal with quality service then you should visit Bengal Spice, or take advantage of their great takeaway service. Find them in the Long Eaton district about 20 minutes drive west of the city centre.
