Tucked away along a row of unassuming shop fronts lies India Village, where owner Jamal Hussein has been cooking up a storm in Woodhall Spa since 1995. Head chef Rahmen joined Hussein's team four years ago ensuring that India Village truly made its mark on the Lincolnshire culinary scene.
We were made to feel like one of the regulars (of which there were a few on the night we visited) on arrival. Drinks arrived swiftly followed by delicious poppadoms and fresh spicy pickles with a delicate raita and mango chutney. Our friendly waiter informed us that all food is fresh and cooked to order, and we were not left waiting for long for our starters. Tender tandoori chicken marinated in fresh herbs and spices and topped with lemon juice was an excellent opener to the fabulous flavours that followed. The mossala dossa - spiced mixed meats wrapped in a crispy roll - is one of the restaurant's most popular starters, and for a very good reason.
For our main courses we feasted on juicy jeera chicken grilled with cumin and served in a medium hot sauce. Adha doniya chicken was also a fantastic mix of ginger, garlic and coriander, with every mouthful beautifully balanced.
The side dishes of mushroom masala and mushroom fried rice were well cooked and the peshawari naan that accompanied them left my dining partner speechless.
For those with room to spare India Village also offers a wide range of desserts to satisfy the sweetest tooth.
What can I say? Fresh food, cooked to perfection, with fantastic service in a great atmosphere. India Village really delivers on all levels and best of all, will suit every budget. You can guarantee we will be back.
