Popular among real ale enthusiasts, MoCa has again been nominated for the Matlock and Dales CAMRA Pub of the Year Award, having won the previous two years. The venue offers six regular ales from local breweries, including Abbeydale, Kelham Island and Dancing Duck, with a guest ale which changes every few days. If real ale isn't your tipple of choice, there is a selection of fine wines and other delights such as Pimm's, elderflower gin and tonic, and Bacchus Kriek cherry beer.

We sat in a sunny window seat from which we could watch the passersby of Dale Road. My companion ordered the mammoth Huntsman's Ploughman's, which comprised a wedge of pie of succulent pork, chicken and stuffing served with sweet chutney, chunks of cheese, tangy pickle, fresh salad leaves and fluffy bread rolls. My choice was a toasted panini, which contained succulent chicken breast, melted mozzarella and pesto, and came with salad, crisps and chunky coleslaw on the side. Accompanied by a warming cup of tea and frothy cappuccino, our lunch was very much enjoyed.
