Owners Libby and Greg Robinson know a thing or two about what makes an atmospheric community bolthole like the White Lion successful. After taking over in 2009, they’ve spent their tenure here establishing the pub as a social hub and cornerstone of the village of Great Longstone, lovingly restoring the interior and transforming the establishment into a haunt that locals can be proud of. Greg heads up the kitchen, crafting dishes that range from light appetite-curbers such as the smoked haddock tart with pickled cucumber, to hearty mains of pork fillet stuffed with black pudding. Libby manages the running of the front of house, ensuring visitors feel welcome and at ease. Call in midweek for the set lunch menu, or on Friday evening for happy hour. If you’re planning a longer visit to the area, be sure to enquire about the White Lion’s lovely holiday cottage, Harrow Cottage.
