Situated in the Derwent Valley, close to the Cromford Canal, Alison House Hotel is the perfect base for those wishing to explore the Derbyshire Dales. It was built in 1845 by the Arkwrights as a family home, and the same classical style and homely atmosphere are evident now. With a menu of exquisitely hearty English classics to choose from, it’s worth a visit simply for the pleasure of dining here. You could sample flavoursome cod, prawn and chorizo croquettes accompanied by tomato and pepper mayonnaise. For mains you might like juicy pan-fried chicken supreme with a coconut curry sauce, perhaps accompanied by a glass of the house pinot grigio. Or perhaps you’d prefer one of the excellent local beers sourced from local Chatsworth Brewery and Matlock Wolds Farm Brewery. To finish we’d have to recommend sampling the cheeseboard, with cheese from the nearby Hartington cheese shop, or for those with a sweet-tooth, the scrumptious homemade lemon cheesecake.
