Offering freshly cooked fare and regular events including live music and quizzes is the Kings Head. This community hub is at the heart of the picturesque village of Bonsall, where it has stood since 1677. Although it was invitingly cosy inside, we chose to relax in the enclosed courtyard, making the most of the evening sun. We began with tender calamari, and creamy goat’s cheese paired with filo parcels filled with figs. My son followed with pork, which was complemented by delicate wine sauce. For me, an impressive hanging kebab was delivered to the table, comprising huge seared king prawns, roasted red pepper, chunks of mango and pieces of monkfish bathed in garlic butter, suspended over a generous portion of chips. Too satiated from my first two courses, I couldn’t manage pudding, though did steal a mouthful or two of my son’s delicious sticky toffee pudding. All in all, this gem is worth seeking out and is deserving of its TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
