The Bulls Head

Ashford-in-the-Water is one of the Peak District's prettiest villages, and The Bull's Head, which dates back to the 17th Century, has a charm and character that is pure old England. Its oak beams and the historic village photos adorning the walls create a nostalgic, cosy environment in which to relax and enjoy a meal. Chef-landlord George is dedicated to providing really good pub food at reasonable prices, and he's striking quite a chord with the local clientele. On the simple chalkboard menu, popular pub classics like a slice of steak pie get a regular billing, while more exotic dishes such as lamb tagine are frequently swapped to keep curious tastebuds happy. Menu highlights for us were wonderfully tangy baked figs with goat's cheese and Parma ham followed by a delicious fish pie, packed with fresh fish and smooth mashed potato - the perfect combination of tantalising flavours and comfort in one dish
