In the heart of Derby’s historic city centre you’ll find the boutique Cathedral Quarter Hotel. Bursting with original architectural details, the imposing building is the perfect setting for an unforgettable visit. After arriving we were treated to a classic gin and tonic and a smooth Rum Sunset cocktail in the stylish new Bogart’s Bar before ascending the beautiful marble staircase to the restaurant.
We were lucky enough to experience the chef’s table dining experience, and our evening was perfected by the chef and sommelier’s friendly, attentive service. We started with a beautifully presented selection of canapés, followed by a wonderfully creamy celeriac soup with white truffle croutons. My partner was then treated to confit duck terrine atop brioche toast with spiced plum chutney, while I enjoyed textures of beetroot with basil oil. Both courses were delightfully earthy, perfectly complemented by a series of different wines. A succulent main course of fillet, shoulder and belly of pork with black pudding bon bons and white truffle mash had my partner reeling. For my main I enjoyed a perfectly executed caramelised shallot tarte Tatin accompanied by roasted vegetables and a micro herb salad. We rounded off an exquisite meal with an assiette of desserts, handcrafted chocolates and truffles, and cups of velvety smooth coffee. To complete the experience we enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay in one of the hotel’s 38 luxurious bedrooms.
