Bruce and Allison Elliott-Bateman have brought a genuine taste of the sea to land-locked Nottinghamshire. This popular country pub has built a formidable reputation for serving the freshest fish and seafood, whether native or exotic, with much of it delivered daily from Colchester and Grimsby.
Choose from starters of steamed mussels in white wine, garlic, leeks and cream or fresh oysters with a wedge of lemon. Main courses might be Cromer crab served hot with a Thermidor sauce or a grilled Torbay sole served on the bone with lemon juice and parsley. Incredibly, up to 22 blackboards can be in use at one time, demonstrating the fantastic array of fishy goodness to be had at this eatery. Just as much credit has to be given to the drinks menu, which features coffee roasted and ground on the premises, and a wine list comprised of a multitude of bottles.
The stylishly refurbished interior offers a variety of dining areas and an inviting bar area. There are three distinct restaurant areas - one vibrantly Mediterranean, one styled on an Italian courtyard with beautiful views over the fields, and the other a more traditional oak-beamed dining room. This is a truly wonderful restaurant, from its food to its furnishings; you simply must visit the Mussel and Crab.
