The White Horse Inn
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

High Street, Misson, Doncaster, DN10 6ED

The White Horse in Misson, just outside of Bawtry, is steeped in 900 years of history. As you approach the beautiful black and white stone restaurant, character oozes from every nook and cranny, with exposed wooden beams, window booth seating and cartwheels eloquently placed to give a cosy country-pub feel. It has a fantastic reputation for food but, as they say, 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating' - so I headed out to Misson to sample the cuisine I had heard so much about.
As I entered, owner Elaine handed me not one, but three menus - meat and poultry, fish, and vegetarian. The array of starters and main courses retain a traditional feel whilst aiming to extend the boundaries a little. I opted for chilli and garlic-marinated tiger prawns, which were succulent and full of flavour. My evening was rounded off perfectly with a homemade classic, bread and butter pudding with custard - truly scrumptious.
Elaine's chef husband Michael works tirelessly to create a unique food-lovers' menu. He is passionate about the food he prepares and cooks - all ingredients are sourced as locally as possible, and seafood lovers will be extremely pleased with the freshness of the fish and the flavours chosen to complement it. The White Horse also boasts a locally renowned Sunday carvery, priced at a very reasonable £7.50, and is available to hire as the perfect backdrop for parties and events.
