The Voodoo Rooms hosts an eclectic array of live music evenings, cabaret performances and exhibitions, and is subsequently buzzing most nights of the week. The decor emulates olde-worlde Edinburgh at its most distinguished, sumptuous and romantic, and the staff are friendly and down-to-earth. The cocktail list is a stroke of mixology genius; my partner and I opted for the Elixir of Life – an invigorating combination of espresso and Appleton Reserve rum. I began my meal with warm goat’s cheese salad, which was light and delicately flavoured. We also found the starter of haggis spring rolls surprisingly elegant in terms of both appearance and taste. For mains, try the rib-eye steak; it was melt-in-the-mouth tender and the mushroom sauce was a great match.
