The famous Jackdaw Inn gained a touch of celebrity after featuring in the 1969 MGM film, The Battle of Britain, when scenes starring Susannah York and Christopher Plummer were shot in the public bar area and outside. Despite its illustriousness, The Jackdaw provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere for its guests. The inn reopened its doors to the public in April 2009 after an exciting refurbishment; the front bars have the traditional feel of an English country pub, while several spacious and beautifully furnished dining areas towards the rear each offer their own distinct style. The Spitfire Room, for example, is a cosy space to seat ten and pays tribute to the famous aircraft, with fascinating RAF memorabilia on show. The gardens are certainly the pub's best-kept secret - they are not visible from the front of the building or the bar, and customers must pass through the dining areas to discover their tranquil beauty. A sizeable parking area makes this an ideal venue for large parties, wedding and christening celebrations, tour parties and so on, as the inn can cater for larger groups as well as providing excellent food every day. The kitchen is a new, spacious and well-equipped facility, staffed by highly qualified and experienced chefs, and The Jackdaw has quickly established an excellent reputation for offering superb traditional and modern British cuisine at very reasonable prices.
