Rayon d'Or

As we entered the Rayon d’Or on theme night, an explosion of colour and the sound of a steel band announced that we had stumbled across Caribbean Night. Welcomed by the staff, we were given garlands to wear and shown to our table; we felt as though we had been transported thousands of miles away. The bright colours and exotic sounds grabbed the imagination of the large crowd, all enjoying the experience of Caribbean culture.

The meal was served as an extensive buffet offering various traditional dishes such as jerk chicken, fried fish and plantains as well as a large selection of pasta, noodles and rice. Dessert was traditionally Caribbean – my favourite being the fruit salad served in a rum juice. With ample staff on hand to ensure no long queues at the buffet, we ate while the DJ played soft calypso music. The evening was full of music, dancing and the fantastic sound of that steel band.

This was the start of our regular visits to the Rayon d’Or’s theme nights. The Wild West, Rock ‘n’ Roll, 70s and 80s, Rat Pack and Moulin Rogue evenings were all nights to remember. Rayon d’Or will host these successful, fun-filled nights again in 2008 – prices range from £24.95 to £29.95.

We also recommend the restaurant’s à la carte menu with starters from £3.95 to £10.50, and main courses from £7.95 to £16.50. Fresh fish includes lemon sole, lobster and grouper, all steamed or grilled in a selection of perfectly blended sauces. Desserts are available from £4.25 to £5.25.

The Rayon d’Or also has two function rooms; The Courtyard can seat 150 guests and the Booking Hall houses 220. Both are suitable for that all-important anniversary, party or wedding.
