The people at Frogshole Farm know better than most that every cloud has a silver lining – after suffering a fire in 2008, this 16th-Century farmhouse was carefully rebuilt and restored, giving the owners opportunity to introduce contemporary twists while, of course, retaining much of the building’s original character. The neutral colour scheme creates a stress-free environment while charming features, such as the inglenook fireplace, preserve a sense of history. The pub is separated into various alluring areas, with cosy corners and raised spaces inviting you to relax with a glass of quality wine (from a list of offerings from around the world) or a traditional cask ale. Alternatively, sip an Illy coffee and browse the internet using the free Wi-Fi.
Those looking for a bite to eat will be thrilled with the superb menu, which features top-quality ingredients, including Dingley Dell ham and Callestick Farm ice cream. Perhaps start with king prawns sautéed with ginger, chilli and coriander, followed by one of their ‘Finer Choices’ such as Herefordshire beef and Abbot Ale pie with homemade wholegrain mustard and leek mash, pancetta, savoy cabbage and a rich red wine and thyme gravy. Don’t miss the Sunday carvery – it’s 100-per-cent homemade, right down to the crispy Yorkshire puddings.
For a taste of some of Sussex’s finest hospitality, there may be no better place than Frogshole Farm – a delightful pub serving deliciously fine food.
