Set right in the heart of the Forest of Dean, this family-owned free house is well-known for its quality ales, food and atmosphere. The owners have created a place where everyone will feel right at home, whether you’re a Mile End local or visiting from further afield to explore the gorgeous surrounding area.

Hang your coats up, kick back and relax, then choose a Cask Marque-accredited ale and some freshly prepared fare. My partner and I decided to warm up with a starter of garlic mushrooms on a bed of mixed leaves and celery, accompanied by warm garlic bread – a dish we would choose again and again. I devoured the slow-roasted belly pork with creamy mash and cider apple sauce for main, while my companion tucked into the chicken breast filled with melted Brie, served with a rich tomato sauce. Although we felt our waistlines expanding, we simply couldn’t resist the decadent vanilla cheesecake and ice cream sundae for dessert – both were scrumptious treats. Our compliments go to the chef for creating such excellent pub food.

The service we received from the team at The Royal Forest Inn could not have been more helpful – nothing seemed too much trouble. The atmosphere here is as unpretentious and heart-warming as the food.
