The Ship Inn is an attractive pub situated just 100 yards from the shores of Chichester Harbour. As well as serving excellent food, The Ship retains all the characteristics of a traditional English inn, with a convivial and relaxing atmosphere. The large bar area features panelled walls, wooden tables and chairs, and open fires in the winter. There’s a choice of locally brewed real ales including Ballard’s Best, Castle Best Bitter from the Arundel Brewery and King’s Horsham Best, plus a monthly guest beer to sample. Fittingly, a nautical theme features throughout The Ship – it has its very own weather station and there is an interesting seat made from a section of a boat retrieved from the harbour. The two dining areas seat up to 60 people, and booking is essential. Comfortable and intimate, here customers can enjoy a meal from the mouth-watering menu of freshly prepared traditional English dishes. Not surprisingly, fresh locally caught fish features heavily. The menu could include local sea bass, mackerel and crab, either plain-grilled or with a delicious sauce, and the beer-battered fish and chips are second to none. There is an extensive wine list, which includes a good range of French Burgundy and Bordeaux wines.
If you want to linger longer, you can stay in the large family apartment, which sleeps up to four, or in the adjoining holiday cottage, which is let on a weekly basis. One thing’s for sure – once you’re aboard The Ship, you won’t want to leave.
