In the cathedral city of Chichester, an authentic slice of Spanish cuisine and culture can be discovered in the shape of El Castizo, a vibrant tapas restaurant run by husband-and-wife team James and Diana Pound. Occupying an old wine cellar, this intimate and understated restaurant neatly encapsulates all that is alluring about the Mediterranean – including the flavoursome food and warm hospitality.
Head chef Diana is a Spanish native who has worked as a chef in Madrid, and delivers food that is rich, simple and rustic. She sources her food (from the cured meats to the rice) from a Spanish supplier to ensure every last morsel is authentic. There are over 30 dishes to choose from, including meat, seafood, vegetable and paella creations. And to complement your meal, there’s a great range of fantastic beers and wines – all imported from Spain as well.
The heat gets turned up at El Castizo during their regular flamenco shows; and if you drop by in the evening, be sure to take advantage of their excellently priced seafood specials. When the temperature rises outside, dine in true Mediterranean style out on the beautiful terraced area. Bookings are always advised at this popular restaurant; and get in contact with Diana and James to learn more about their lunchtime specials.
