Not a cowbell, clock or glockenspiel in sight at this Swiss-run tea house – but there’s certainly plenty to yodel about. Still going strong after 40 years in the upmarket catering and hospitality services, the Züger family brand is completely focused on providing delicious homemade goodies such as breads, cakes and ice cream.
The tearoom itself is stylish, homely and compact, with a glass reception counter showing off a fine array of sweet pastries. A range of food is on offer, from big breakfasts to toasties, baguettes, afternoon tea and main courses too. I opted for the Swiss-inspired rosti – a stack of grated potato, bacon and cheese topped off with a perfectly cooked fried egg. My companion tucked into a substantial cheese and tuna baguette with all the trimmings, along with a bowl of piping hot, golden chips. For afters, a Züger tour de force in the form of a decadent chocolate torte and a chocolate cupcake were also consumed with relish. Other offerings on the menu include Wiener schnitzel and Cheshire mixed grill, plus a mountain of other beautifully presented, mouth-watering desserts. There is also an outdoor seating area where visitors can enjoy a variety of soft and alcoholic drinks.
