Named after the year horseracing first began at Chester, 1539 Restaurant & Bar brings you the opportunity to enjoy fine contemporary British cooking made using the best produce from the region. With wonderful panoramic views over Chester Racecourse, an exquisite wine list and mouth-watering seasonal menus, dining at 1539 is a treat indeed.

Opt for the à la carte and seared scallops with paprika-braised chicken ‘lollipop’, fried squid and chorizo oil might well take your fancy, or perhaps try English asparagus with home-cured ham and deep-fried hen’s egg. You won’t fail to be impressed by mains like roast rack of Conwy Valley lamb with Jerusalem artichoke purée, garden pea fricassée, morel mushrooms and potato gnocchi, or divine Grosvenor Estate chargrilled venison burger. Finish with delicious iced buttermilk parfait, rosewater jelly and macerated strawberries.

In the summer months you can enjoy a main course and a drink, alfresco on The Roof Lounge terrace, for just £10. The large decked area also offers an exceptional vista across ‘the roodee’ – as the racecourse is also known – while the bar and lounge boasts luxury and comfort all year round. Enjoy predinner drinks here, catch up on the latest sporting action on large flat-screen televisions, or hire it for a special event. Speaking of which, look out for the racing lunches, fashion shows and fantastic fundraising events frequently held at 1539 – and the superb Sunday lunch offering two courses for just £14.50.
