The Reservoir Inn is in a league of its own when it comes to country pub dining, and I would expect nothing less from master of the culinary arts, Martin Blunos (chef profile page 55). Together with proprietors Susan and Andy Proctor, previously of Heston Blumenthal's The Hind's Head in Bray, the aim was to create an establishment offering dishes comprising fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, a great selection of drinks with some hearty cask ales and fabulous wines by the glass or bottle. Since March 2008, Martin and the team have been creating their own brand of exquisite modern British cuisine and hospitality in the heart of the Cotswold countryside. Celebrating everything that is good about British food, Martin's menus offer something for every eventuality, from a light snack menu and kids' selection to an evening à la carte menu and Sunday lunches. From the evening menu, you can expect to find starters like wood pigeon, crispy belly pork and black pudding salad (£5.50), and main courses such as beerbattered fish with mushy peas and triple cooked chips (£11) - this is simple food produced with expertise and a nod to the traditional.

From the bar snacks menu try the farmhouse cheese ploughman's, served with 'Reservoir' pickled shallots and tangy onion marmalade (£6.50), or the homemade venison burger with a complementary tomato and fig relish and crispy fries (£8.50). There is also a weekly changing set menu available at lunchtimes during the week and early evenings, providing even more choice.
