Set in an idyllic location on the banks of the North Teign River, in a magnificent 54-acre estate of mature woodland and gardens, Gidleigh Park is surrounded by the wilds of Dartmoor.

Gidleigh Park is one of the UK’s leading small country house hotels and offers 24 sumptuously appointed bedrooms, each with luxurious en-suite marble-clad bathrooms. The food and wine at Gidleigh Park are both truly special and form a key part of the Gidleigh experience. Executive head chef Michael Caines MBE has retained two Michelin stars for the ninth consecutive year and was awarded the prestigious title of AA chefs ‘Chef of the Year’ for 2007/ 08.

The style of Michael’s cuisine is classic and highly innovative, modern European yet firmly rooted in the West Country and he is passionate about using locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible. Sample starters include pan-fried Brixham scallops with parsnip and vanilla purée, and a ginger jus; or the inventive tartlet of poached quail eggs, onion confit, smoked bacon and truffle with roast quail and a light quail jus. Follow with classic roast best end of Dartmoor lamb with fondant potato, onion and thyme purée, tomato fondue and a tapenade jus; or let the sea inspire you to try slow-poached Cornish sea bass with Thai purée, stir-fried shitake mushrooms, mange tout and fresh noodles with a fragrant lemongrass foam. The light and airy restaurant, with stunning views over the parkland, offers an à la carte menu, as well as a tasting menu which changes weekly, and a classic tasting menu (seasonal). A two-course lunch starts from £33, with three courses for £41.

The wine list at Gidleigh is considered one of the finest and most extensive in the country, with the cellar housing 650 bins (around 7,000 bottles) in optimum conditions. The sommelier is also on hand to share his expert knowledge on the vast selection of wines from around the world. A genuinely warm Devonshire welcome awaits.
