Launched in October 2011, The Meating Place constitutes The Chameleon Group’s latest venture. In the heart of Cardiff city centre this venue offers casual, relaxed dining at great value. The lunchtime menu starts at £3.95 with clam, chorizo and butterbean broth, and also includes open gourmet sandwiches with delicious fillings such as salt beef and ox tongue with piccalilli and potato salad – priced at just £4.90.
Evenings see a superb seasonally driven à la carte menu showcasing quail spatchcock (£13.90) and roast skate with oxtail and confit garlic (£12.90), as well as a grill menu featuring quality British steaks served with hand-cut, chunky Maris Piper chips, beer-battered onion rings and a choice of sauces, such as bone marrow and red wine. Why not try the signature mixed grill comprising 10oz sirloin, slow-cooked rolled pork belly, confit lamb ribs and Béarnaise or mushroom sauce perhaps?
There are also specials on offer at weekends – all prepared on-site. A purpose-built open charcoal barbecue cooks marinated skewers hung from the ceiling, which are then served with flat bread, Israeli couscous, peppers and baba ghanoush or hummus and natural yoghurt with coriander. Delicious.
