The plan is something of a hidden gem. Its location makes it perfect for those who want a quick lunch while shopping, but it is an equally relaxing spot if you want a quiet snack in a great people-watching location. Breakfast is served from 9am until 11am and there’s a great selection: bacon and fried eggs in a fresh, floury bap (£3.60); boiled egg and soldiers (£3.20); or organic yoghurt with Greek honey and fresh seasonal fruits (£3.50). From 11am until 4pm, there is a comprehensive range of baguettes, toasties, jacket potatoes and salads to choose from, as well as a good variety of hot meals.

There is something here for everyone’s taste; for example the vegan salad with avocado, tomatoes, olives, artichokes and a whole cacophony of other fresh and wholesome flavours is served with a baguette (£5.95) and is a tasty and filling option whether a vegan or not. The vegetarian chilli (£7.50) is excellent value for money and is served with rice, Greek yoghurt, cheese, avocado, mixed leaves and crisp tortilla chips – spicy and tasty in equal measure. All portion sizes are generous, particularly the jacket potatoes, which are freshly baked each day and come with a variety of toppings such as cheese and onion and tuna mayonnaise (both priced at £5.20).

Cakes and pastries are equally tempting, with a hot chocolate muffin with chocolate sauce and ice cream (£3.50) and the pancake with bananas, ice cream and hot fudge sauce (£3.95). The service is quick and friendly and it’s reassuring to know that the plan sources only fresh local ingredients, many of which are organic, for example the milk, eggs, double cream and salad leaves. It is this that gives the food its full flavour. Next time you’re passing, give it a try; it may just become your regular haunt.
