You'll find riverstation's bar + kitchen on the ground floor of the bold, modern building on the harbouside. Re-styled three years ago it has emerged as one of the city's finest places to eat and drink.
With its open kitchen, sumptuous leather sofas and enviable waterfront location, it is ideal for drinks, with or without food, at any time. From almost all of the tables, sofas, and the outside deck, you can soak up unparalleled dockside views whilst sampling from the immense drinks menu, which includes a selection of £5 classic cocktails. Try a maple bourbon, which comprises Woodford Reserve, butterscotch schnapps and maple syrup; or if you're feeling fruity, why not try a passion-fruit martini - apricot brandy, vanilla Stoli and passion-fruit purée' Just wicked. The riverstation bar also serves a wide variety of interesting bottled beers and lagers, and has an ambitious list of high-quality wines by the glass. There isn't a better place to unwind with colleagues after a day's work, or to spend an evening with friends.
With a great bar comes fantastic food. The menu, available from midday, is wide ranging. From the fabulous flavours of oysters with shallot vinegar or goat's cheese bruschetta with beetroot slaw and watercress to start, to chicken saltimbocca with pumpkin mash, fig and chilli chutney, or squid-ink tagliolini with smoked salmon and vodka cream sauce as main courses, the quality is outstanding and the prices very reasonable for a complete meal. Puddings include the likes of rosemary panna cotta with spiced red-wine-poached pear, or lemon and poppy seed tart with blackberry sorbet. For a lighter snack, breads and olives are priced just £3, and the renowned chips are available for £2.50.
If you thought riverstation was the ideal eatery for a special occasion, celebration, or business lunch, you're still correct - it is one of the best in town, but don't forget its little sister downstairs. If it's early morning coffee and pastries, a light lunch, or evening drinks you're after, the bar + kitchen, which is open from 9am, is hard to beat.
