Sitting gracefully in the beautiful countryside of the Chew Valley is The Carpenters Arms. Formerly a row of miners’ cottages, The Carpenters Arms has been lovingly converted into an idyllic country inn boasting a superb restaurant, 12 en-suite bedrooms and a terrace for alfresco summer dining. For those cold winter nights a wood burning fire in the oak-beamed bar creates an ambience you will not want to leave behind. The restaurant offers a dining experience that would suit a casual supper, formal dinner or business lunch. Larger parties or family gatherings can be catered for in a private function suite.
Such a respected establishment does, of course, present you with a menu to match the rest of its profile. Constantly changing in order to keep abreast of seasonal produce, each dish has been tried, tested and executed to perfection. An emphasis on Cornish fish, West Country beef and in-season local game makes even choosing from the menu a pleasurable experience. Vegetarians are well catered for, as indeed are those with special dietary needs. You may find delights such as oak-smoked salmon with baby capers, lemon and black pepper to start; or warm duck salad with orange and maple glazed walnuts and mixed leaves. To follow expect delights such as pork and apple sausages on bubble and squeak with caramelised shallot gravy, or puff pastry of wild mushrooms, asparagus and spinach with tarragon cream – delicious.
When you have finally chosen, you can be assured that you’ll find a wine to complement your meal, whether a fine Claret, something from the New World or simply one of the ten wines available by the glass. You will never be rushed at The Carpenters Arms; it’s almost as if time slows down so you can soak up the atmosphere of this very special inn, and you’ll be happy to savour every moment.
