Its has landed in Bristol

If you’ve been doing your Christmas shopping in and around Cabot Circus, you’ll know that the stage is set for Itsu to throw open it’s shiny new doors. Itsu has landed in Bristol – the first Itsu to spring up in the West Country – and anyone who loves sushi and a healthy lunch should pay it a visit.

Itsu runs on a similar healthy-eating ethos to Pret, as it was set up by the same founder and pioneer, Julian Metcalfe. Similar to Pret, everything is prepared on the day and on-site. What’s more, it’ll satisfy those looking for super healthy options for lunch on the go with protein packed, healthy and ethically sourced food to satisfy for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

We in Bristol take sustainability seriously and we also love a bargain, so you’ll be pleased hear that half an hour before closing, the shop will hold an Itsu sale when all sushi and salad boxes will be reduced to half price. Almost nothing goes in the bin and the joy of it is that you can try out different dishes, depending on what’s available.

Talking of trying out the food, we popped along for a little sneak preview. We found smoothies ready to be blitzed and packed full of nutrients, hot noodles boxes for warming the winter chills, and platters of sushi that were perfect for sharing between us.

There’s a lot of choice here, but if you’re heading in in the few weeks you simply have to try the Santa-on-Sea box. It’s only available through December and is a festive bento box featuring smoked salmon. Itsu opens Wednesday 14th December 2016.

Delicious dishes at Itsu

Here’s what the team thought of this latest addition to city-centre dining…

Lucy: “As we approached the new Bristol branch of Itsu, I was wowed by its palatial proportions – two floors of sushi heaven right next to Cabot Circus.

“The variety of the sushi and salad boxes was truly spectacular, but in the end I opted for the Omega 3 Salmon Supreme, not just for the worthily nutritious-sounding name, but for the perfect balance of sushi and salad. The salmon on the sushi melted in the mouth it was so fresh, the salmon and avocado maki were satisfyingly rich without being sickly, the mixed-leaf and grated carrot salad was complemented by a tasty topping of roasted seeds, and the separate sweet chilli dressing was not in fact particularly sweet and instead had a lovely, refreshing tang. I stole one of my colleague’s vegetable dumplings and they were equally delicious, with such a punchy flavour that they scarcely needed the teriyaki dipping sauce.

“As well as healthy options such as yoghurt pots and fresh fruit salad, there was a tempting range of little pudding pots that included Belgian chocolate mousse and the appropriately named Tiramitsu. When you’ve made such healthy choices for the main course, then you’ve earned a bit of karma for dessert.

“The people at Itsu have thought of everything, and there are even USB charging points within the tables.”

Alex: There’s an impressive number of dishes to choose from, and it’s all super fresh. In the mood for something hearty and indulgent? Pick up a brown rice potsu! A dose of health on-the-go? Grab a Beautysmoothie! The location is also great – it’s spot-on for office lunch breaks and retail therapy refuelling.”

Rob: “I really enjoyed my Itsu lunch. The shop’s ideally located for a bite to eat while you’re doing a spot of shopping or for a lunchtime treat if you work in the city centre. The staff were friendly and the food was great. I tried the chicken teriyaki pot with rice, which was delicious and really filling. I particularly love that you get a range of sauces such as hoi sin, sriracha and teriyaki to complement your meal. I’ll definitely be popping back.”
