6 Chandos Road, Redland, Bristol, BS6 6PE

On a quiet corner in Redland, that was once home to celebrity chef Keith Floyd’s bistro, you’ll find Snobby’s – a lively wine bar that’s the newly opened passion project of owner Nick Bethell. We visited on a Wednesday evening and received a warm welcome into the cosy community restaurant that serves sharing platters, Roman-style pizzas and unpretentious Italian small plates. We were immediately treated to a specially mixed Negroni featuring watercress gin and an outstanding vermouth – a favourite that we were assured should never be shaken.

From the menu, we ordered the mixed meat and cheese sharing platter to start. It was beautifully presented and paired with an Italian Dolcetto d’Alba red wine that was expertly recommended by Nick. Then came the small plates; we opted for the creamy burrata salad, smoky taleggio and sundried tomato arancini, garlic butter king prawns and the ‘nduja Scotch egg, which has become something of a local legend and didn’t disappoint. We finished by sharing caramel panna cotta with gingerbread, and chocolate gratin served with berries and honeycomb ice cream. We sipped a Pinkster Royale: gin-based raspberry liqueur topped with Champagne – the perfect celebratory conclusion to our delectable meal. This intimate venue also caters for large parties, and guests benefit from the owner’s excellent hospitality, good humour and extensive knowledge of the 60-strong collection of bottles they have on offer. A newcomer on Chandos Road’s famous dining scene, we’ve no doubt that Snobby’s will be a lasting favourite.
