13-14 Dalziel Place, Edinburgh, EH7 5TP
If you’re craving incredible and authentic Indian and Nepalese cuisine, you don’t have to fly 5,000 miles to find it. Just a short drive from Edinburgh’s city centre and set on the edge of Leith, the founders of the family-run restaurant Gautam’s began their cooking career with small restaurants in Kathmandu, Nepal, before migrating to India to gain further experience. Spending invaluable time in Delhi before journeying to Dubai, it was here that they were exposed to a diverse customer base and were tasked with impressing tourists and professionals from all around the world with their exceptional culinary talents. Later moving to Ireland and Scotland separately, the two reunited in Edinburgh to bring foodies across this cosmopolitan city with an Indian and Nepalese dining experience that is difficult to better.
Passionate about sending their diners on a unique culinary journey just bursting with dynamic tastes, textures, and scents that will immediately have you salivating, Gautam’s quickly rose to become one of Edinburgh’s favourite eateries, regularly receiving stellar reviews and achieving an enviable reputation as one of THE places to go for an Indian in the city. Particularly popular with groups of friends and colleagues, as well as those craving a first-class takeaway, the relaxed ambience and casual interiors adorned with colourful Nepalese touches also makes this an ideal location for a laid-back and intimate date night.
Sit in the elegant and softly lit dining area with a pint, your choice of spirits from their extensive selection boasting everything from Scottish whisky to luxurious flavoured gin, or a glass of wine from Gautam’s great assortment of red, rosé, and white varietals, and peruse the impressive menu. Whether you’re a lover of spice or you prefer your dishes more fragrant, mild and creamy, Gautam’s selection certainly won’t disappoint. Begin your feast with a poppadum tray served with spiced onions, mango chutney, mixed pickle, and Gautam’s chutney before enjoying starters the likes of vegetable samosas, authentic Nepalese chicken momo, or trio of succulent lamb chops marinated in ginger and garlic. If you can’t decide on a dish, instead opt for the chef’s mixed starter, comprised of mixed pakora, chicken tikka, seekh kebab and juicy king prawns.
The mains are just as enticing and include hearty plates that range from spicy lamb madras and rich chicken bhuna to vegetarian dishes like Bombay aloo and the always popular saag paneer. If the impressive choice of delicious dishes is impossible to choose between, the chefs have put together a list of house favourites to make it easier, which includes the sumptuous Himalayan lamb hotpot. Accompany your dish with a freshly-made naan bread, a soft chapatti or a side of fluffy pilau rice and you’ll wonder how you lived before without Gautam’s in your life.
Celebrating 1 year in business this 14th November, Gautam’s invites you and your family and friends to mark this special occasion at the restaurant with a night filled with amazing food, music, drinks, and maybe even some live entertainment and surprises along the way.
