Pancake Day is finally here, and although it seems like we’ve had to wait forever this year for this celebration of one of our favourite sweet treats, the time has officially come to whip up some pancake batter, get out your frying pan, find that Jif lemon you’ve had lying around since last pancake day, and, hopefully without making a fool of yourself, show off your flipping skills in the kitchen. But do you know what the nation’s favourite pancake topping is? Well, according to a recent study conducted by Uber Eats, an online food ordering and delivering platform, strawberries and whipped cream were our favourite toppings of choice, followed by banana in second place, and Nutella in third.

No matter how you like to top or fill your pancakes though (my personal preference is vanilla ice cream with lots of chocolate sauce), the following list of the UK’s favourite 10 pancake toppings will no doubt whet your appetite before what is hopefully a joyous and indulgent evening of stuffing your faces (especially if you’re giving up junk food for lent this year).

The UK’s favourite pancake toppings according to Uber Eats:

  1. Strawberries and Whipped Cream
  2. Banana
  3. Nutella
  4. Belgian Chocolate
  5. Oreo
  6. Maple Syrup
  7. Vanilla Ice Cream
  8. Icing Sugar
  9. Mixed Berries
  10. Caramel

Unsurprisingly, the data also revealed that people in the UK preferred sweet toppings over savoury.

Breaking down the results by the UK’s major cities, although strawberries and cream was pretty much unanimously the victor across the board, people in Birmingham are particularly fond of Belgian milk chocolate and brownie chunks (maybe Brummie’s just reallly love alliteration?), those in Manchester and Leeds really love ice cream and banana, and for people in Sheffield it’s chocolate and Ferrero Rocher that seems to do it for them. But really why choose!? It’s called Pancake Day not Pancake Hour for a reason… you have the whole day to try out as many pancake toppings as you like. And really, let’s be honest, every day for the rest of your life if you want.
