A new dining experience is coming to Europe for the very first time. Dig into some local and delicious food whilst immersing yourself in surreal surroundings at Norway’s underwater restaurant!
Norwegian architects Snøhetta are behind Under, the pioneering new restaurant set to open near Båly on the south coast of Norway in February 2018. The structure is designed both to withstand the most rugged ocean conditions and to blend in with its marine environment with ‘sensitive consideration’ – to link aquatic nature and land, planners told CNN.
Featuring a huge panoramic window, the unusual restaurant will resemble a sunken periscope. It will offer a comfortable and secure dining space, which will accommodate up to 100 guests. The aim is to connect diners with nature in the area, whilst serving great local food in an unforgettable setting.
According to the website, ‘Under’s namesake holds a double meaning: In Norwegian, “under” can just as well be translated into “wonder.”’ A trail designed to educate the public about nature in the area will guide diners to the restaurant entrance at the water’s edge, contributing to the wholly unforgettable experience.
Flights to Oslo from the UK start at £15, so there’s no excuse not to make a trip in the new year. It’ll be like front-row seats to a live episode of Blue Planet!
