Dining out in Leicestershire and Rutland has never been so exciting, with amazing venues popping up year upon year. Renowned for producing incredibly talented chefs, the area has developed a reputation for fine dining and has a large number of excellent gastropubs. Head over to Rutland Water to admire the stunning scenery or head into Leicester for some retail therapy and work up an appetite; you’ll be dazzled by the choice of food and drink on offer when it’s time to sate that hunger.

The Case
Located in a converted luggage factory with a private room for 44 guests and an 80-cover restaurant, this unique establishment is spread across four floors, each with its own atmosphere and charm. The Case is one of Leicester’s premier dining spots and the City’s first Champagne venue. It oozes style and offers surprisingly good value. A prime example is the new set-price lunch menu which offers two courses and a complimentary aperitif for £10 for three courses and an aperitif for £12. It is evident from the menus that a passion to produce great British food with a global influence using modern techniques and fresh, seasonal produce is at the heart of The Case’s ethos.

M-x2Hammer and Pincers

The Hammer and Pincers
An award-winning restaurant offering contemporary dining in sophisticated surroundings, The Hammer and Pincers is the place to be for some of Leicestershire’s best cuisine. Service is impeccable here – unsurprising considering that the proprietors are Savoy-trained. The restaurant specialises in Aberdeen Angus steak from local Blackberry Farm, hung for a minimum of 28 days and cut to order. Everything here is made in-house, from the bread to the ice cream. This gem has held on to two AA rosettes for five years running and has been listed in the Michelin Guide.

M-x2 Poachers Brasserie

Poacher’s Brasserie
Poacher’s Brasserie is putting Thurlaston on the foodie map thanks to proprietor Chris Tandy’s dedication and passion for fine food. The head chef is the key to an interesting and varied menu that includes pizza at one end of the scale and fine dining with venison and game at the other. The presentation of the dishes is imaginative and sometimes quirky, making each meal a sensory delight. Look out for special event evenings with famous local sportsmen such as Jonathan Agnew, Willie Thorne or Steve Walsh.

M-x2Caffe Italia

Caffé Italia
You don’t have to go to the Continent to get a taste of authentic Italian cuisine, just make a beeline for Caffé Italia in Melton Mowbray. A quirky, charming bistro located down a little cobbled street just next to the church, it is quickly becoming the place to go for a bite to eat or a real Italian coffee with friends. Diners can expect traditional Italian meals freshly prepared with the best ingredients. There’s also a great takeaway menu available so you can take a little slice of Italy home with you.
