We’re buzzing about this new take on the classic afternoon tea…

It seems holidaying families, travelling businesspeople, vacationing friends and weekending couples aren’t the only ones who will be enjoying a stay at The Chesterfield Mayfair this summer – 60,000 bees will also be making themselves at home (and making delicious honey) in the hives on the hotel’s roof. To celebrate their arrival, executive chef Ben Kelliher has created a special afternoon tea, charmingly titled ‘Afternoon Bee’ and available until the end of September, inspired by these hard-working bees and the flowers they find on their foraging flights around the city. In-house expert Sarah Ricks, who is a member of the British Beekeepers Association and looks after the hotel’s bee population, will be available to answer any questions you might have about the resident bees and their seasonal journey across London.

Those partaking in this bee-utiful afternoon tea will start things off with a refreshing mint tea to cleanse the palate ready for a culinary stroll through a summer garden, featuring floral aromas and honeyed treats. After admiring the lovely display of delights served on a cake stand, you can nibble a range of finger sandwiches before indulging in the sweet stuff – the creative selection includes a flower pot of chocolate mousse with chocolate almond soil; carrot cupcake topped with ginger and honey cream and dusted with pollen; rosemary and honey macarons with chocolate ganache; and elderflower and vanilla cheesecake.

Of course, an ‘Afternoon Bee’ wouldn’t be complete without a pot of tea, and The Chesterfield Mayfair has an impressive bunch of infusions to choose from – we love the special rosebud tea, with tightly packed rosebuds that slowly release a calming fragrance and smooth taste, and the elderflower and lemon verbena flowering tea which combines white honey-scented flowers with light citrus notes. Or, if you fancy something a little stronger, you can even imbibe a glass of bubbly or a specially created cocktail.  What’s more, once you’ve sipped and munched your way through this garden-inspired feast, you’ll be invited to dip your hand into the honey pot and pull out a fabulous prize to redeem on your next visit to The Chesterfield – perhaps a discount on your next Afternoon Bee, a bottle of Champagne or an overnight stay in one of the luxury suites.

We think this sounds like the bee’s knees – if you do too, buzz over to The Chesterfield Mayfair’s website to find out more.
